Google Maps goes Mobile (silently?)

Google keeps (still) surpising me: After they have introduced the personalized home page on mobile, featuring RSS aggregation, gmail and search, they seem to have (silently?) introduced google maps for mobile linked google local mobile with google search mobile.

I incidentally stumbled on it by querying "Cargo London" in google search mobile. (A Club in London) and got back a neat small page including directions, zoomable map and clickable phone number.

The pairing of google local for mobile and google search on mobiles does not only take google to a higher level of usability, it also gives your mobile phone a complete new purpose: Navigation.

I am excited what will happen, once mobile phones will have GPS/Galileo built in!

Google Maps for everyone!

One of the major strengts of Google Maps is the fact that it has open interfaces and anybody can contribute and enrich the application by his or her own ideas. However, it is still a bit complicated to understand the Google Maps API (Application Programming Interface) particularly if you are not familiar with these kind of things. Therefore there is MyGoogleMaps that allows you to easily create your own map(s) within a web interface. It is still at very early stage but it looks already very promising.

MacBook Pro

Apple Macintosh has revealed its first intel x86 processor laptop today. The MacBook Pro is not only supposed to run up to 4 times faster than a ppc mac but it has also a couple of neat features such as a built in camera. This is perfect for using with isight and video chat!

Another interesting thing is, that currently, google.com returns not a single result for the query "macbook pro". This is going to change within the next couple of days. The blogsphere is already full of articles about it. It is going to be interesting to see how google is going to catch up. Technorati.com has already hundreds of entries in all various languages. Let's see how they become more over time:

It had been a long time since my last blog post. I have been on winter holidays in Switzerland with my girlfriend Katia. The place is so remote, we did not have any access to the internet nor a proper telephone line. Find more blog posts here soon. In the mean time, have a good New Year!
